Physical Description
Betes appears mostly Human, aside from the distinctive Bajoran ridges along the bridge of his nose. He has an athletic, harden build shaped by years of combat and survival. There are scars along his body that go as far back to his preteen years when the Cardassians had him fighting for sport due to his size. his guarded posture suggest that he is one always watching his surroundings and expecting trouble.
Personality & Overview
Betes is intense, sarcastic, independent and at times confrontational. Very little patience when it comes to bureaucracy or people who expect respect simply because of their positions. Highly observant and difficult to intimidate due to already seeing the worst that life has to offer. Beneath the harden exterior, Betes can surprisingly be quite compassionate, especially when it comes to situations dealing with children. But also towards civilians, refugees, and others caught in conflicts beyond their control.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: A natural survivor, Hunt is combat experienced, resourceful, and capable of adapting quickly to various situations. And excellent pilot with an aggressive style of flying. Years of operating outside of the Federation has made him street smart and knowledgeable about mercenaries, smugglers, and other criminal organizations. Once someone has earned his loyalty, Betes is extremely protective of them.
Weaknesses: Betes deeply distrust authority and often assumes governments and institutions will eventually betray those who depend on them. His anger and impulsiveness at times can cause him to act before considering the consequences, particularly when it involves someone that he cares about. At times, Hunt has difficulty accepting help and prefers resolving his issues alone. Betes also has a flexible moral code, which makes him willing to lie, steal, smuggle, intimidate and even break the law if he feels the situation calls for it.
Ambitions
His goal since leaving Starfleet is to earn enough credits to build a life somewhere in luxury.

Personal History
Betes was born to Rear Admiral Othello Hunt and Olan Kina on Temek Labor Camp on Amleth Prime in Cardassian space. His older brother James was born in the camp as well. The only thing the Cardassians hated more than the Bajorans was Starfleet. Growing up he witnessed his father getting mistreated more than most and a lot of that hatred was directed at his brother and himself to being a combination of Human and Bajoran. Due the harsh conditions, his father past away in 2365. A year later, the Bajoran Resistance raided the prison camp, freeing the prisoners. His mother Olan Kina took it upon herself to join Bajoran Resistance. He and James were brought to Earth where they lived with their Uncle Marques and Aunt Shanice.
When he turned 18, Betes attended Starfleet Academy. But just like the last two years of High School, being at the Academy and on Earth just didn't feel right. The people of Earth lived in paradise, while there were those suffering in faraway places barely outside of Federation space. This all just seemed so hypocritical to the young man. After barely making it through his first year at the Academy, which consisted of fighting and constant disagreements, with several of the Academy Instructors, Betes decided to drop out and leave Earth altogether. Hearing about the deal the Federation had struck with the Cardassian Union, Hunt decided that he would do some good, by picking up a security position on Dorvan V. The people in this colony were peaceful and simply wanted to be left alone. But the Cardassians took advantage of the situation at every turn. Starfleet turning a blind eye in order to maintain peace only pissed Betes off further. A reminder of his own painful childhood that could have been avoided if Starfleet had done better.
When the Maquis revealed themselves, and actively engaged the Cardassian Union, Betes knew exactly where he needed to be. The last call Betes had with his brother was an argument regarding the Federation trying to keep the peace, while Betes believed that his brother had gotten way too comfortable in the Federation and had completely forgotten what their entire childhood was like. During the next three years with the Maquis, Betes moved up through the ranks and became quite the efficient pilot. The young man was full of rage, and the Maquis was the perfect outlet to exercise his demons. Satisfied with the Cardassian Union on the verge of being ruined by the combined efforts of the Klingon Empire and Maquis. Hunt thought that there could be a day when fighting the Cardassians would no longer be required, but that changed practically overnight when Cardassia joined the Dominion. Within a week, damn near every Maquis cell had been exposed and destroyed by Jem'Hadar. Managing to be one of a handful of people from his cell to escape, Hunt went into hiding. Ending either dead or in a Federation Penal Colony didn't sound appealing at all.
Throughout the war, Betes took on a new identity and found work in the Orion Syndicate. A year later, word had gotten out that the Maquis had all been pardoned in order to join the war against the Dominion. Making a call to his uncle, retired Admiral Marques Hunt. Betes inquired if this pardon would apply to him as well, if he joined Starfleet. When he heard the answer was a definite yes, Hunt enlisted in Starfleet and found himself thrown into the war. Due to his experience, they assigned Betes to security as a Petty Officer 2nd Class.
After the war, Betes was offered the opportunity to remain in Starfleet. But after only year, he felt it best to leave. The ideals of the Federation and Starfleet still failed to be very appealing to him. From there, he spent the next couple of years smuggling. When the CL Dutchman had a need for a Combat Chief, Hunt was highly recommended for the position.
