A Better Kind of Risk - Part 2
"Permanent, the role is open so as long as you don't decide you want to leave or get yourself fired for violating the contract, you can stick around as long as you like. All things considered, you hold your own, I can give you a seven precent share." It was a high amount, a lot more than Zedd had wanted to give to one person but at the end of the day, he considered the Combat Chief the most important after himself and the XO.

Hunt considered the seven percent offer and wondered if he could talk his way to eight percent. From what he researched, the Dutchman was a good ship. And Captain Sykes was fair as far as pirates went. A permanent position guaranteed to earn more, rather than a temporary job. "The seven percent sounds good to me. So, what's the food situation like on the Dutchman?"

"Well we have replicators on the ship, Federation standard with a few upgrades thanks to the Ferengi refit. However we do allow you to bring on and store any foods you like, some people like to cook fresh food once and a while. Alcohol you can bring on and store as well for your personal use. Kegs, boxes, barrels and whatnot. Otherwise we don't have any gallies or the sort. And we do actually have a full bar area on deck two." Zedd felt relieved hearing that seven percent was amenable.

"That all sounds good to me," Betes replied. "By the way. Do you care to share a bit about yourself with me. And when do you need for me to report in?"

"Well firs thing's first." He flipped over the PADD and slid it across the table. "Go ahead and sign as long as you're in agreement with everything." He placed a small palm sized device next to it. Once you agree, this device will give you access to the ship and allow you to beam up if you choose, or to get through the airlocks if you prefer other means. You can head up anytime you like, preferably within the next day or two so you can get settled in."

Taking another sip of coffee, Zedd considered what he would share. "As far as I go, my background is in computer systems" he motioned to the dataport on the side of his neck. "I was a pirate for several years and have managed to leave that life behind, so I understand the running and gunning, making it out by the skin of your teeth. Fighting for that next meal. It's part of the reason I decided to come out here and become a privateer. The Dominion doesn't really care about much beyond their own space and there's no Federation, Klingons, or Romulans here. And with New Ferenginar breaking ties with their home world and sticking to the old ways, there are opportunities all over the place to make as much latinum as you can carry."

Picking up the PADD, Hunt skimmed through, going over all the details of the contract. He listened to Sykes discussing his past, and he caught as the Captain pointed at the dataport on his neck. Betes had seen at least two other people have a dataport installed on their necks in the past. Satisfied with what he had read, he signed and slid the PADD back across the table.

"The Federation has a way of expanding," Hunt brought up. "Especially as it pushes forward into the Gamma Quadrant. The opportunities you speak of won't last for long, if Starfleet has its way."

Zedd considered the other man's words carefully. "If I've learned one thing over the years, it's to never discount the tenacity of those that are most desperate. The Ferengi here have their hooks in so many thing, I mean look at ehat they built on less than a decade. Including orbital docking platforms and a station up above. Plus all of the other races doing business here. You know the Dominion has shadow commerce going on here too, plus I would doubt they actually follow the rules of the treaty. They've had time to start doing anything they could want, they contril a vast amount of space and it's common knowledge the Federation doesn't have the resources and ships to keep full tabs. I dont know.much about the war but I've heard plenty here. Alot of people here value their independence and alot more actually still support the Dominion itself."

Zedd picked up the PADD and tucked it away. "Feel free to bring along any personal weapons and belongings you want too. We don't believe in fighting fair. Otherwise unless you have any questions, I'll let you get back to anynother business you may have down here. No sense in staying in one place too long and risking becoming a target." He was never comfortable staying in the same place on this planet too long. Especially considering his past.

Taking another look around the room, Betes grinned. "Couldn't agree with more with spending too much time in one place. I'll be on board in twenty-four hours. No point in me being on this world a second more."

Zedd gave a nod and leaned forward, extending his hand."Welcome to the Dutchman, Mr Hunt."
