Contigency Plan
Betes sat in the armory, going over the layout of the Borg vessel, they currently found themselves parked in. Their very first mission and it was to steal from the Borg of all beings. Captain Sykes had quite the large set on him to pull a move like this one. But as Rule of Acquisition number sixty-two goes, the riskier the road, the greater the profit. And this was one hell of a risk. The plan so far was to take everything that wasn't completely bolted down and if things go wrong, then run. Which, in his opinion, was not the best plan of action.

During his brief time in Starfleet, fighting the Jem'Hadar, he became quite adept at ordnance in one of the units he was assigned to. He would apply that skill set to tomorrow's heist. Finding another location on the blueprint, Betes marked it as a prime location. If he was to find himself running from the Borg, things blowing up between them made him feel so much better about the whole thing. In the short time that he had been with this team, he had been impressed with their skill set and everything else they brought to the table. Last thing he wanted was to see anyone assimilated on mission one. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but count the potential profit and what that percentage would look like for himself.

Clearing his mind, he tried focusing on the task at hand. After locating a few more spots, he smiled in satisfaction. It was days like these that he was glad that he didn't follow his brother James advice and stay in Starfleet. The dreams he had didn't involve Starfleet. And the last thing Betes wanted was to follow an organization that allowed his family and so many others to suffer at the hands of the Cardassians. Leave it to the Federation to label a group like the Maquis as terrorist,s when they were giving away people's property and worlds. The hypocrisy of it all and his brother chose to side with that nonsense. Especially with everything they had been through.

Pushing his thoughts of his brother to the side. Remembering that James chose the other side. Sighing, he spotted a choke point in the blueprint and marked it. This ship was one of the better ships he had been involved with in a long time. Sykes said this would be a permanent position. Instincts told him to always keep it moving. But there was a small voice from inside of him that told him to strongly consider staying for a while. Would it really be so bad to set down some roats? To stop living out of a duffle bag. Living in this place could allow him to save up as much latinum as possible. Then he could buy some land on some world and build a compound.

Shaking his head, he realized that his mind kept jumping way ahead on where he currently was. For all he knew this crew could end up betraying him on this first mission, or the Captain could realize that he really didn't need his services. Everything was still fresh and not really set in stone. Technically, he still had to show why exactly he was worth the seven percent that was requested at their first event. With everything he was cooking up, the crew of the Dutchman was going to be surprised and proud at what he was putting together. But in all honesty, Hunt had hoped that the contingency wouldn't be needed. And everything would be absolutely perfect. But the universe had proven throughout his life, that things always went wrong at some point.

Finishing up, Betes turned off the PADD and leaned back into his seat. Noting that he hadn't spoken with his mother in months. He would have to give her a call soon. Their last conversation involved her yelling about him not taking full advantage of his potential. She wanted him to be more productive or successful, even if it wasn't with Starfleet. This coming from someone who joined the Bajoran Resistance right after they were freed and dumped her two sons off with relatives who were complete strangers on Earth. But complained when he joined the Maquis, when he was only following the example set before him. Occasionally. he wondered what his father would have thought about him and all the decisions he made. Rear Admiral Othello Hunt had risen through the ranks, and yet still find a way back to center chair on starship. This would eventually lead to the man's demise. But somewhere in a state of despair, Othello Hunt fell in love and started a family in a detention camp. Still holding out for the day, they would all be rescued. Betes watched his father die holding onto that dream. And almost a year after his death, they were all finally rescued. The universe had a funny way of doing things like that.

A part of him died the day his father died at the camp. The boy was angry, but that pain turned that anger into something vicious. Unforgiving for the longest time and the universe provided him with multiple ways to let that anger out. Sometimes the outlets were productive and had a great cause. And other times, it was for the benefit of lining his pockets. But there were times, some poor guy was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time, which led to him feeling his wrath.

It was seven hours, before they would begin their heist which gave him five hours to take a short nap. Being extremely meant the nap wasn't coming, but at least he might be able to get an hour or two if he managed to doze off.
